Our Services

MPA brings decades of public market M&A experience, delivered in a way that serves the interests of a wide range of Canadian companies. Our professionals have been lead advisors on multi-billion transactions but are equally interested in successful transaction outcomes for companies valued in the tens of millions.

We manage the full transaction lifecycle—from identifying buyers or acquisition targets, preparing marketing materials, managing data, to negotiating terms and closing.

We also help mid-market businesses determine the best financing options for scaling operations or optimizing capital structure – developing a transaction strategy, actionable recommendations, and positioning companies for capital injection at attractive terms.

With unparalleled execution capability, and an efficient, no-nonsense approach, our clients can expect a cost-effective and constructive experience.

MPA provides independent capital raising advisory across public and private markets, drawing on decades of experience spanning public equity and debt, private equity and credit, venture capital, corporate banking, and structured finance. Our professionals have successfully managed more than $30 billion in transactions.

As a registered Exempt Market Dealer (EMD) in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, and through our partnership with U.S.-based Marco Polo Securities, we offer clients access to both Canadian and U.S. capital markets. Our network includes more than 110 capital providers across North America, as well as global private markets through our membership in IMAP.

We deliver objective, strategy-first advice tailored to each client’s capital needs—unbiased by product or provider. We serve as an overall transaction advisor for the entire process, from early-stage preparation, though launch, short listing and financial close. Transactions have included structured financings, pre-IPO placements, and private equity raises exceeding $50 million.

MPA delivers independent fairness opinions, formal and ad hoc valuation reports to boards, trustees, regulators, and courts. Our work is grounded in deep capital markets and M&A expertise, tailored to complex or non-standard scenarios that often fall outside traditional mandates. We are known for producing defensible, well-reasoned analyses, relied upon in high-stakes, scrutinized transactions — and for standing behind our conclusions in written and oral testimony when required.

MPA advises corporate boards, special committees, institutional investors, and public sector entities on a wide range of financial and strategic matters. Our team is frequently engaged to deliver expert opinions and testimony in contentious or high-profile situations. We provide expert input on governance, regulatory matters, transaction structuring, stakeholder negotiations, and capital allocation — supported by rigorous analysis and real-time market insight from our active M&A business. With a flexible engagement model and hands-on approach, MPA is a trusted advisor when independent judgment and credibility matter most.

Testimonials

“We interviewed 3 potential advisors before selecting MPA. Once negotiations began, MPA’s experience and expertise came through as their suggested strategies and tactics lead to a great result."
D. Brunner
President, Milton Manufacturing Inc
"MPA took a very hands-on approach to considering strategic opportunities for Scorpio Mining. Steve’s understanding of the market and of our needs enabled us to complete a transaction that was very well received by our shareholders.”
Ewan Mason
Chairman, Scorpio Gold
“MPA stood out among the various firms we talked to for its depth of understanding of the regulated utility sector and how regulation impacts valuation metrics. Their team was creative and responsive and went beyond our expectations to meet our needs.”
Patricia Newson
President & CEO, AltaGas Utilities
"MPA was critical to the committee representing the largest stakeholder group of Kitchener-Waterloo based Economical Insurance Company in the demutualization process, the non-mutual policy holders. This stakeholder group represented about 80% of the value of Economical. The demutualization process has now been approved. One of the unique outcomes of the transaction was the establishment of the Economical Insurance Heritage Foundation, a new mission driven foundation dedicated to enhancing sustainability and minimizing systemic risks in the economy. Our stakeholder group took the lead in the formation of this foundation. MPA were instrumental in every step of the negotiation process that created this important result for Economical, its stakeholders and this new foundation.”
George Fowlie
Non-Mutual Policyholder Committee
“A critical component of executing a successful transaction for SaskCentral’s majority stake in Concentra Bank was to ensure the process was thorough and robust, and that the consideration to be paid to SaskCentral was fair, from a financial point of view. Our diverse stakeholder environment and ownership structure, combined with the significant complexity of the transaction, required an independent and experienced partner to provide assurance to the board as they made their decision. MPA was an exceptional partner who earned the trust and respect of our board and transaction team as an independent financial advisor. They met tight timelines, actively engaged with the board and key parties to the transaction, and provided a thorough assessment of the fairness, from a financial point of view, of the consideration to be paid to SaskCentral.”
Shawn Good
CEO, SaskCentral
