WaterFurnace is formed in Canada in 1980; later becoming WaterFurnace International in 1983, offering North American distribution of total system packages for residential geothermal closed loops. Jim Shields becomes Chairman of WaterFurnace International. In 1986 WaterFurnace had the distinction of building the most reliable geothermal heat pump in the industry at the time, the WXV, which are installed in thousands of homes still to this day. The WXV set the benchmark for efficiency and reliability in geothermal heat pumps.
