Alex is a Managing Director at MPA, where he leads MPA’s private placement, alternatives, and family office coverage business, and co-leads MPA’s principal investing business which deploys flexible capital into opportunistic, special situations, event-driven, and distressed situations. He is involved in a range of M&A, corporate finance, and capital raising assignments.
Alex has experience in sourcing, negotiating, and executing a variety of complex public, private equity, and debt transactions.
Alex is a senior investment professional with a multifaceted legal background. He has completed many large and complex transactions, and was integral in both starting and building alternative asset management practices in hedge, private equity, and private credit.
Prior to MPA, Alex’s experience includes:
– Founder of Acasta Enterprises, where he co-led the development of a new private equity style asset management, including a $400M capital raise and IPO, and the acquisition of several businesses with over $1.2B in value within 18 months
– Partner, Managing Director, and General Counsel at Acasta Capital, a boutique merchant bank and advisory firm where he led several M&A and corporate finance transactions
– General Counsel & Secretary to West Face Capital, one of Canada’s most prominent alternative asset managers which grew to approximately $3B in assets under management during his tenure
– Lawyer at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where he practiced corporate, securities, financing and bankruptcy/restructuring
Alex is on the Board of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, a member of the Global Experts Panel at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management, and a member of Upper Canada College’s Association Council.
Alex has a J.D. from Dalhousie University, and a B.Comm. from McGill University.
